In 2023, Arper made the decision to leave the Merchandise Mart after many years as a tenant there. After an exhaustive real estate search, they selected a 4,500 square foot second floor space at 167 Green Street in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. The second floor space not only offered ample room for Arper to display the company’s furniture, it also included an outdoor space overlooking Green Street.
Arper’s design goal for the space was to blend display with hospitality and community. In a hospitality-inspired move, the coffee bar and café function is located adjacent to entry. From there, the space opens to the showroom and view beyond. The showroom is intended as a backdrop to the furniture, a supporting player in the highly choreographed showroom experience. It recedes, allowing the product to shine. Tucked around one corner from the showroom is the Material Lab, a flexible workspace featuring Arper’s standard finish options. In the opposite corner from the Material Lab is a cozy conference room for ten.
